Buttonwood Farms

Buttonwood Farms is a small gem set amidst the splendor of Santa Barbara County's Santa Ynez Valley. Our 39-acre vineyard stretches across a sun-drenched mesa on the eastern portion of our 106-acre property. We started planting in 1983 and now have 33,000 vines, small in the world of wine, but huge to us.

Buttonwood's varietal mix of sauvignon blanc, semillon, marsanne, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and syrah reflects the preferences of owners Betty Williams and her son-in-law, Bret Davenport, for Bordeaux and Rhone style wines. As we expected, they grow perfectly in our warm, eastern Santa Ynez Valley location.

Bridlewood Winery

Surrounded by 104 acres of vineyards with lakes, gardens, and picnic areas, Bridlewood offers an unparalleled wine country experience. Bridlewood is lushly landscaped, landmark Mission-style wine estate that welcomes its members and guests to an unparalleled Santa Barbara wine country experience. The Bridlewood property had formerly been one of Santa Barbara's premier equestrian rehabilitation facilities. In 1998 owner Cory Holbrook renovated the estate into a winery, retaining the property's architectural charm, and brought on board one of the country's most acclaimed winemakers, Daniel Gehrs as consulting winemaker.

Bridlewood makes a broad range of wines including Syrah, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot, Arabesque (our proprietary Rhone-style blend), Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Rideau Vineyard

Built in 1884, the Historic Landmark Adobe, nestled among ancient oaks and acres of vineyards, is home for Rideau. We offer wines as rich as our history. The gardens and lawns surrounding the Alamo Pintado Adobe offer a relaxing environment in which to enjoy wine or a picnic lunch. Enjoy the shade of an ancient oak as you recline, sip and watch the day go by. Wander the gardens between the adobe and the winery--come in October, and you might even see the grapes being delivered for 'crush'. Come get a glass of wine, find a place in the sun or in the shade and soak up some of our country charm. We guarantee you'll enjoy great Rhone-styled wine in a charming and historic location.

The hillside vineyard is planted in Syrah--a Rhone varietal grape that makes a spicy, rich red wine that tastes of berries, black pepper and deep tannins. The flatter areas are planted with exciting 'clones' of Viognier--a floral white wine variety that is currently causing a stir in the 'usually-Chardonnay' crowd. These vineyard sites show great promise. Excellent exposure, balanced soil profiles and top-notch farming guarantee that Rideau Estate wines will be worth the wait.

Sunstone Winery

Like his great-grandfather, Frederick Doak, who at the turn of the century moved his family to the Napa Valley to grow wine grapes for Inglenook Winery, Fred Rice and his wife Linda relocated their three children from Santa Barbara to a terraced 55-acre ranch over-looking the Santa Ynez River in 1989. The sight was selected for its ideal south-sloping exposure; sandy, rocky soil; and a microclimate which produces early morning fog, warm, breezy afternoons, and cool evenings.

The goal of the Rice family is to produce exceptionally high quality, estate produced wines by utilizing organic farming methods, using extensive canopy and crop management techniques, and handcrafting wines in small lots. Fred explains that "The grapes from our vineyards are hand-harvested, hand-sorted and gently crushed before being placed in small containers for fermentation, where they are continually punched-down for the best extraction."
